Summary:

Melinda Sordino begins high school at Merryweather High. She was the first on the school bus, she decided to sit in the front of the bus so she can see her middle school friends and hoped that they would sit with her or even talk to her. Everyone who knew her glared at her as the entered the school bus. Before school begins the freshman must meet in the auditorium, everyone falls into clan. Melinda is the only person clan less. Ivy and Nicole are Melinda’s ex-friends, Rachel is her ex-best-friend. Melinda is dying to tell Rachel what happened. Melinda has a secret that no one knows, it has something to do with why she called the police at a party this summer. That’s the reason why nearly everyone at Merryweather High hates her. Melinda meets a girl named Heather, she is new to town. At lunch Melinda gets embarrassed by this basketball player on accident, he accidentally threw a ho-ho towards her, when she tried to dodge it, her lunch tray landed in her chest. Melinda really enjoys art class, she can’t stand the cheerleaders. Melinda’s parents are upset with her because of her grades.

Reaction:

Some random girl from school at their school homecoming pep rally asks Melinda if she was Melinda Sordino. She tells the girl yes, everyone turns and looks. Then the girl says, “ Aren’t you the one who called the cops at Kyle Rodgers’s party at the end of the summer? ”(Anderson 27). Melinda become numb, and shakes her head. Another girl then says, “ My brother got arrested at that party. He got fired because of the arrest. I can’t believe you did that. Asshole.”(Anderson 28). Something happened to Melinda the night of the party that made her call the police. She hasn’t told anyone. She says to her self that she can’t really tell them what happened that night, she tries so hard to forget that night. That night changed he life it also changed her as a person because now she can barely Speak.
